Celebrating the World Wildlife Day 2021

World Wildlife Day will be celebrated in 2021 under the theme “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet“, as a way to highlight the central role of forests, forest species and ecosystems services in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people globally, and particularly of Indigenous and local communities with historic ties to forested and forest-adjacent areas.

Jackson Wild, the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) just announced the finalists of the 2021 World Wildlife Day Film Showcase: Forests.

This year was a record setting showcase with over 275 films entered from all over the world!

For this showcase, the judges – professional filmmakers, scientists and stakeholders from around the world – who screened approximately 750 hours of film collectively to select the finalists.
Michael Sanderson contributed as a Judge and Ana Luisa Santos contributed as a Judge and as a Finalist Judge for this show case.
It was an enormous pleasure for us to contribute for this showcase and to watch all the incredible productions! Congratulations for all the hard work!
 
The winners will be announced during the first-ever global virtual World Wildlife Day celebration on March 3, 2021 at 14h (Amsterdam time zone).
