Synopsis

In the rugged and lush dunes of South-Holland lies a unique habitat formed by the forces of man and nature. Hidden in this spectacular landscape, charismatic wildlife play out their secret lives in the shadow of a sprawling city. In a constant flux, this coastal defence provides homes to numerous species, protects from storm surges, and offers a water supply for humans.

Amidst the shifting sands of the Dutch dunes, a landscape shaped by centuries of natural evolution and human intervention. From the aftermath of the last ice age to the present day, this fragile ecosystem teems with life, sustained by the hidden freshwater bubble beneath its surface.

As seasons pass, the dunes reveal their secret species. From the feisty foxes and roe deer to the colonies of cormorants, to the industrious social rabbits, serenading nightingales, and specialized sand creatures. These are only a few that fill in the slate of 7000 species to exist here.
